21 Jul Grants available for home insulation upgrades
The government of Canada has launched The Canada Greener Homes Grant on May 27, 2021. Homeowners are taking advantage of the available grants to improve the insulation in their homes.
With the new Greener Homes Grant the Government wants to encourage Canadians to make their homes more energy-efficient so their homes can be more comfortable and affordable to run.
Eligible Home Insulation upgrades
The Canadian Greener Homes Grant allows homeowners to update and increase their homes insulation. This slows the rate of heat loss, resulting in improved energy use and can help save money.
The insulation’s resistance to heat flow is measured using both an RSI value and an R-value. R-value is the imperial measurement and the Résistance Système International (RSI) value is the metric measurement. The higher the resistance value, the slower the rate of heat transfer through the insulating material. Recommendations on insulation improvements and the calculation of your incentive will use these values.
All equipment must be purchased in Canada and can be purchased at your local Consolidated Gypsum Supply Branch.

Eligible grants for:
- Attic and Ceiling Insulation
- Exterior Wall Insulation
- Exposed Floor
- Crawlspace
- Basement and
Foundation Insulation
What are the grant amounts?
As part of the initiative, you have access to:
- up to $600 for a home evaluation and expert advice so you can begin to plan your retrofits
- up to $5,000 total to help you make energy efficiency retrofits to your home
If you are eligible for the Greener Homes Grant, you could receive a total reimbursement of up to $5,000 for retrofits. You may choose to do more than one of the retrofits below but in all cases the maximum reimbursement will not exceed $5,000 total.

Interest-Free loans available soon to Homeowners
To help homeowners and build on these measures, the 2021 Federal Budget proposed $4.4 billion over 5 years, starting in 2021-2022 to help up to 200,000 homeowners complete deep home retrofits through interest-free loans of up to $40,000.
