Spyder PSU: The New Kid on the Roof

A roof’s underlayment is an important layer of protection beneath the finished roofing material. Consolidated Gypsum / Roofing Supply is now stocking Spyder® PSU, a self-adhered roofing underlayment designed for sloped roof applications.

Made by Sentry Building Innovations, Spyder PSU combines a rubberized adhesive backing with a patented-pending mechanical slip-resistant surface. The product is designed to provide a secondary water barrier beneath asphalt shingles, synthetic shingles, concrete or clay tiles, and wood shakes or shingles. It offers added protection against water from ice dams, snow, storms, hail and wind-driven rain.

Designed for grip and installation efficiency

Spyder PSU features a smooth, lightweight design and a split release liner. The split liner helps make positioning and installation easier, while the rubberized adhesive is designed to grip the roof deck. Its slip-resistant surface is engineered to provide improved walkability during installation.

Spyder PSU is 36 inches wide and 67 feet long, covering two roofing squares per roll. The product sheet lists a 90-day UV exposure rating and a 20-year warranty. It also states that Spyder PSU meets or exceeds ASTM D1970 and meets the performance requirements of CAN/CSA A220.1.

As with any roofing underlayment, proper preparation and installation matter. Follow Sentry’s current installation instructions and confirm that the product is suitable for the roof assembly and conditions on your project. A slip-resistant surface does not replace required fall-protection equipment or safe work practices.
