Meet the Pitch Hopper: A Roofing Tool for Steep Asphalt-Shingle Roofs
Steep-slope roofing work can be demanding. To help make certain tasks more manageable, Consolidated Gypsum / Roofing Supply is now stocking the Pitch Hopper, a lightweight roofing wedge designed to create a temporary, more level work surface on pitched asphalt-shingle roofs.
Whether you’re completing a repair, installation or inspection, the Pitch Hopper gives roofing professionals a dedicated place to kneel or stand while working on a slope. Its dual-angle design offers two working sides: the lower-pitch side is designed for a level surface on a 9/12 roof and can be used on lower pitches; the steep-pitch side is designed for a level surface on a 12/12 roof and can be used from 9/12 to 12/12.
A practical roofing tool for steep pitches
The Pitch Hopper’s foam base is designed to grip asphalt shingles when weight and friction are applied. The lightweight wedge has grab areas for repositioning on the roof, and the manufacturer rates it to support up to 250 lb. Used as directed, it can provide a more comfortable working position and may help reduce strain during roofing tasks.
The Pitch Hopper is designed for asphalt shingles only. It should not be used on metal, tile or other roofing surfaces, on tear-offs, or on shingles with significant granule loss or other unsafe conditions. It is also not designed to support ladders or planks. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions and assess the roof and conditions before use.
A reminder about fall protection
The Pitch Hopper provides a temporary work surface; it does not replace certified fall protection. Always use an appropriate certified harness and approved fall-protection system, and follow applicable workplace requirements and the product instructions.
